Music Marketing Project Blog Post #1

When the project was first assigned to my group, I was absent, but I was lucky enough to have been put into a group where they all explained to me the project in an easy way to understand. I will say that when I heard what genre we had gotten I was worried. We got the genre Metal. I personally have never listened to metal music and from what I had learned, neither had the rest of my group. As I have just mentioned, I was worried, but at the same time I knew it would be a fun challenge for us and an interesting one. It was a chance for us to go deep into a new genre and maybe some of us would find an interest in this type of music.

Starting the project, I knew that we would have to do some research before starting anything. A research chart was assigned for the assignment, which I knew would be helpful in a variety of things. In the chart seen here, you can see that there is a section for the history about the record label or company as well as the marketing strategies of some groups/artists under the record label or company.

Although only a small portion of the chart is depicted here, there is much more information listed as well as a second chart showing an alternate record label or company. This information helped me understand more about the genre especially since research on artists and groups under this genre were added. Because there were actual examples on it, I was able to understand it better as well as listen to this type of music on my own time to really wrap my head around it. Even though I have learned that I am not a fan of this genre, it was super interesting to do research on it and learn more about it. This chart also helped me feel more prepared and confident to do the rest of the project and to make the music video as part of the assignment.
The next portion my group and I had to do was the planning of the actual music video we would need to create. Before drawing anything on a storyboard we decided to verbally plan out what we wanted to do first, to get a basic outline of how we felt the video would and should look. During this part, we made slight changes and mental notes of what we definitely wanted to add and what part we should add it too. This led to the plan for the beginning, middle, and end of the music video. Some parts in between were thought of as well, but they were not set in stone as a plan. Later that day, I went home and printed the outline of the storyboard and started drawing. During this process, I kept close contact with one of my group members to decide on some smaller details. I brought the paper in the next day to class where we all looked over it. We made a few changes and planned on how we would film this, for example, the use of fake blood. The story board is shown bellow.

Finishing the storyboard, my group and I went through the challenge of figuring out when and where we were going to film. I call this a challenge because when one person was available, the other three were not and the same kept happening for different days and times. We then decided to meet up at a local park in the early afternoon of the weekend. Here we filmed just a few scenes as we were not able to go through them all for various reasons.
Overall, this project has been extremely interesting so far and I'm excited to see the finished product of this.
